Black History Month is a Time for Reflection, Reverence & Action

Today, Texas For All, the largest progressive coalition based in Texas, issued a statement celebrating the start of Black History Month.

Full statement from Texas For All’s Executive Director Sissi Yado is as follows:

“Texas For All proudly joins the nation in commemorating Black History Month. This month is a time for us to reflect on the tenacity and creativity of Black communities, whose contributions have undoubtedly molded our society.

Black History Month is not solely a celebration of past achievements. It is a recognition of the challenges and triumphs that mark the journey of Black people in our state and country. From challenging systemic inequities to advocating for social justice, the power of Black communities underscores the imperative for all of us to work together towards a future where every Texan is afforded dignity, no exceptions.

As we honor Black History Month, remember that it implores us to unite in solidarity, across race, class, and gender, to dismantle the barriers of discrimination and inequity that persist. Throughout this month and beyond, Texas For All stands firm in our dedication to achieving a Texas where every individual can thrive, no matter the color of their skin or where they call home.

Join us in celebrating Black History Month—a time to honor the past, ignite change, and pave the way for a better tomorrow.
